A visit to Nijmegen cannot be missed on Gabriel Lopes' Euro Tour 2025. And you don't have to wait for the festival in September at all, because we are organizing an extra event on Thursday 29 May (Ascension Day). Keep this date free in you calendar, because it will be an amazing day for all samba players!
Workshop
In this workshop we will learn two songs: Pro Dia Nascer Feliz and Samba de Arerê. The workshop will be accompanied by a singer and a cavaco player. With these songs we will learn some great patterns, but also what it's like to play samba percussion in a song like they do in Rio de Janeiro! Off course Gabriel will also give great advise about technique and instrument tuning during the workshop.
Tickets
You can buy your ticket at this website, costs are €70*. This includes coffee, tea and lunch. Also some instruments will be provided, but please bring your own also (and please don't forget to bring a fitting tuning key for every instrument you bring). Hearing protection is recommended during the workshop. The amount of participants is limited, so don't wait too long to buy your ticket! The ticketshop is to be found right here, at the bottom of this page. With the ticket there is also the possibility to pre-order the amazing book that Gabriel wrote: Fundamentals of a samba school bateria. If you don't allready own copy: this is a must have for every Rio sambista! If you order it with your ticket, Gabriel will bring it on the workshop day. And if you like, he'll be happy to sign it for you!
Tickets are not refundable, if you want to sell your ticket, please use our secure reselling partner TicketSwap.
* This doesn't include the payment costs of our ticketing partner. You can save a little by buying tickets together with your friends!

About Gabriel LopesI’m a professional musician since the beginning of the 2000s. Since the beginning I have actively participated in the Rio’s Carnival. At this stage I joined Monobloco, where I act as a musician and teacher since then. With Monobloco I recorded two albums and two DVDs. As a teacher I have been teaching for over 10 years in Monobloco workshops, preparing students for the carnival parades in Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and São Paulo. I also teach at music schools and I tour in Europe, UK and USA teaching the percussion of the samba schools’ baterias. With my online courses I teach to people from all over Brazil and Japan as well. I am the Drum Master of Volta Alice, a carnival group that has been parading around the streets of Laranjeiras neighbourhood since 2005. The group brings together an average of 10,000 merrymakers and the bateria plays with approximately 120 drummers. I am a researcher of samba schools’ baterias and to share my research I wrote three books: Fundamentals of s Samba School Bateria, As Bossas do Mestre Maurão and Mestre Dudu: As Paradinhas da Não Existe Mais Quente. |
